We visited Chic at the nursing home on November 30th, 2025. The staff told us he didn’t sleep much Friday night and was very agitated on Saturday, so they gave him morphine. On Sunday, he was very slow and did not speak to us, but he let me feed him ice cream one last time.
We were concerned he might fall out of his wheel chair, so we asked the staff to get him in bed. They put him in bed and the next morning, he appeared to have passed, so they called the hospice nurse who came and confirmed it.
The nurse called me and I went to see him. It is a very personal decision as to whether you want to see a deceased love one. I have mixed emotions about it. Oddly, when I touched his shoulder, he was still warm. He was definitely passed away and not present when I spoke to his body.
We are fortunate that he had made his funeral plans years ago. His children’s families worked together on his obituary several years ago, only needing the date of passing. He bought a plan for cremation and registered for a space at the Texas Veterans Cemetery in Abilene, Texas. Hospice contacted the funeral home and they took care of everything. The memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 am on April 10, 2026. We are still working on a date for the memorial service in Pueblo, Colorado sometime in June, 2026.
